Introduction to Scenarios

An interaction scenario is a self-contained simulation environment in which a participant navigates a scene as a controllable agent and encounters events driven by other actors and triggers. Each scenario is built from a set of cooperating systems that define who the participant controls, what other agents do, when events occur, and how the session ends.

Starting Point

The Mountain View Scene Template provides a preconfigured scene with the core GameObjects already in place, including a Game Mode (with a Player Selector and Time Limit), a Starting Point, and data logging (Log Analysis).

It is the recommended base for building new scenarios. To create a new scene from it, go to File > New Scene and select the Mountain View Map template, or duplicate the MountainViewCityMap scene (Assets/mobisim/Scenes/Scenes/Environment Scenes) in the Project window using Ctrl+D (Windows) or Cmd+D (macOS), then rename the copy before making changes. To build on a different map, see Environment Maps.

Core Systems

A scenario is composed of the following systems:

Game Mode
Coordinates scene-level events such as ending the session and advancing to the next scene. Every scenario scene requires a Game Mode.
Player Setup
The Player Selector spawns the participant's controllable pawn, camera rig, and UI overlay at the scene's designated start position.
Ego Agents
The character or vehicle the participant controls during a scenario, such as the scooter, iTango, or pedestrian.
Road Agents
Non-player agents, such as delivery robots and pedestrians, that populate the scenario and participate in interaction events.
Event Triggers
Zone-based components that activate events when the participant enters or exits a defined area. Event Triggers are the primary mechanism for initiating actor movement and scene transitions.
Paths
Define the routes that road agents follow when activated. A path is linked to an agent through its path follow component.
Time Limit
Sets how long the participant can stay in a scene. When time runs out, the scene ends and the participant moves on.
Battery
A resource that runs down as the participant acts, limiting what they can do and how long they have.

Scenario Workflow

The following diagram shows how the core systems interact during a session:

The participant spawns at the configured start position and navigates the scene. As they move, they activate Event Triggers that initiate actor responses (typically an agent beginning to move along a waypoint path), producing the intended interaction. When the session condition is met, the Game Mode advances the participant to the next scene.
